Nursery Time

Hello friends, I've missed you!
It has been a few long months since I've last written a post, and whether that's good or bad, it was a break that I needed.  Since becoming pregnant in January (with our first!), I've had very little energy and motivation to keep this up.  Moms know what I mean! Since May, I've gained much of my energy back, but it all went into renovating our home from top to bottom (literally!) Moms will tell you that's called "nesting".  Some dads don't understand it.  It's a natural instinct during pregnancy.  After all, who doesn't want to bring a newborn into a perfect world?
Speaking of perfect, my husband and I have been working hard to create the perfect nursery for our unborn daughter.  It's not quite finished yet, but let me give you a sneak peek of what has inspired this room:

For those of you who know me, I love cottage rooms and a bit of shabby chic too.  I'm not into themes, so there's no Minnie Mouse in this bedroom.  I like white and floral and of course, pink for a baby girl.  A little bit of diamonds and frills doesn't hurt either.

Here are some details on the items you see:

Creating Vignettes

What is a vignette in decorating? How do I create a vignette? Where are ideal places to create a vignette? Those are the questions I'm going to answer today.

A vignette is simply a display or grouping of carefully chosen pieces that work together in harmony.
Let me show you a few examples of vignettes:

Free Love Printables

A few days ago, I created two Valentine's themed prints for the master bedroom in an effort to add a few decorations to the space for cupid's holiday.
The prints, which I created in Adobe Illustrator, are simple with the messages "XOXO" and "LOVE".  I printed them onto white cardstock, then inserted them into these really small frames that I already had.  Then, I hung them next to our wedding photographs behind my jewellery vignette:

Creative & Pretty Storage Solutions

January is organizing month, so let us continue with that theme on the blog here.
As I mentioned in my previous post, organizing begins with smart storage.  It also begins with creative storage, which is what this post is all about.  All of the ideas I'm about to show you, I simply love.  Unconventional things were used to produce an organizing system and pretty display in the office and bath.  Very pretty, I might add.  For instance, vintage milk glass, one of my favourite things to collect, keep office supplies at bay on this blue tray:
No more fishing for a pen, or craming drawers with loose supplies, and did you notice the candies too?
Inside the desk, more milk glass holds sewing supplies:
